Kurumi Ono

Kurumi Ono is an artist based in Tokyo and Tochigi, Japan. She graduated from BA Fine Art, Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London in 2019.

Ono focuses on the human duality of impermanence and preservation. All beings someday return to the soil. Even our energy changes states. Yet we yearn to preserve, looking for certainty. Even if for a moment. To articulate this distinctly, Kurumi formulated a method for printing photographs on delicate paper. She buries these fragile enditions in soil. Conceiving this as the ultimate act of preservation—burying the physical embodiment of our desire to preserve. And through this fragility and evanescence comes an enduring beauty that outlives the physical.
